Who is Lord Hanuman?
Lord Hanuman is also called 'Bajrangbali' ie. the God of power (with strong
members like 'Vajra-diamond') is believed to be 'Sankatmochan' i.e. the
destroyer of evil/danger. Hindu devotees believe that King Hanuman is a God
who protects the devotees. The great Epic Ramayana glorifies Lord Hanuman as a
very devoted Lord Rama (Rama Doota) Lord Vishnu to Treta Yuga who was a divine
monkey (Vanara) who helped Lord Rama find his wife Sita and later freed her
from the captivity of Ravana.
King Hanuman was unmarried (Brahmachari) and is believed to be
'Chiranjeevi'. Born to Anjani's mother and Caesar's father, Lord Hanuman is
called 'Kesarinandan', and 'Vayu Putra' i.e. a spirit-begotten son of God.

What is the story behind Hanuman Chalisa?
Saint Tulsidas was a devotee of Lord Rama. He would recite
‘Ramcharitmanas’ every evening near the Varanasi ghat. Many people would gather
to listen to him. During this period, he got to know from someone that lord
hanuman disguises himself as an ugly looking old man and listens to saint Tulsi
Das every day. The next day, Saint Tulsi Das is successful in recognizing hanuman
and after the end of the evening session, he follows the old man. On meeting hanuman,
he touches his lord’s feet. Then he writes ‘Hanuman Chalisa to please lord
hanuman. Varanasi’s Sankatmochan temple is at the place where lord hanuman is
said to have met saint Tulsi Das.
